PASTOR MATTHEW'S JAN 2012 LETTER CONTINUED...
Dear brother, the orphan children along with street children and poor and needy orphans are doing well. They completely forget their terrible experiences during life and happily enjoying in the presence of God. Slowly they came to normal life. Now they are reading their class lessons, reading the word of God, doing prayers and singing Christian songs. All orphan children are participating in the worship. They have beautiful faces. When they sing songs on Sunday, now they are looking like Angels of heaven. Praise the Lord, now they are children of God. It will increase in this year.
Dear brother are in need of money every month for recurring expenses to feed and to accommodate orphan children in our ministry. This will cover the costs of breakfast, lunch, dinner, evening refreshments, and special diet for two days a week like egg and chicken, supporting staff salaries like cooks and wardens. We are also in need of money every year to meet non-recurring expenses like Chairs, tables, mats, bed sheets, pillows, cooking vessels, dinner plates, glasses, jugs, serving items, school note books, school bags, shoes, belts, ties, clothing, medical and sanitation expenses. Pray for all this needs to run the Christian Orphanage. God has been providing funds to meet all the above needs from time to time. Believing that all truth is a manifestation of God’s sovereignty in creation, we have established our ministry that proclaims Gods love. For the Christian, have to show the love of Jesus to the world who are lost. You must swell with pride when you see how much our ministry has benefited those.
Today I delivered the word of God on “Elisha Vs Elijah” taking the scripture text from I Kings 19:19-21. All the congregation moved with the word of God and came forward to re-dedicate their lives to Jesus Christ. I would like to share the same message with you. Feel free to share your thoughts on the message delivered in our churches.
Believers are comparable to Elisha, successor of the prophet Elijah, as is giving in 1st King 19:19-21. In Verse 19, we find Elisha, plowing with 12 yoke of oxen. Elisha, no doubt was immensely rich to own all these oxen. Yet he was not a lazy person. He himself was with the 12th pair toiling hard in the field along with his workers.
Idleness is no man’s honor, nor is husbandry any man’s disgrace. Being at the tail end, as he labored, he could supervise the work of all the 11 men plowing just in front of him. Besides being rich Elisha is thus someone who holds a supervisory position in his profession.
Plowing is a hard job that requires real stamina and much physical strain under hostile conditions. One can visualize in imagination that Elisah, while working in the open field in hot sun with no shelter over him to provide any shade and shadow, was perspiring profusely. Yet he was diligent in doing his duty. He was a man of great energy and dedication.
Suddenly Eliljah fast passing by, cast the mantle on the sweat soaked stinking body of Elisha and briskly walks off. Normal human reaction to this intrusion is to fling the blanket back on to the face of Elijah with a shout of violent disgusting protest. Elijah rugged in appearance and dress and rough in actions did not bother to stop and find out about the repercussions. He kept moving faster and Elisha had to leave the oxen and run to reach him seeking permission to go home and bid good-bye to his father and mother before following him. (V. 20)
Elisha was a godly man well informed of the Holy Scriptures. He understood that the blanket was the symbol of the spirit or authority and it’s falling on anyone meant transferring of divine power to him. He therefore did haste to follow Elijah without hesitation when the blanket fell on him. His decision to serve him was instant. He was not only occupationally eligible to serve God but also spiritually sound to be a laborer in His vineyard. Elisah was the right person to be signed up as true Christian. In other words, the true Christians like Elisha should be spiritually and financially sound persons prepared to sacrifice their time and money in service to God.
It is not by accident that we are believers. We are believers because we are God’s elected and selected ones on whom the blanket of power from above has fallen. We should, therefore be ready to serve Him with all our might as He beckons us.
Elijah, as requested, permitted Elisha to go home to bid farewell to his dear ones. But he warned him not to forget what he has done by putting the mantle on him. (V. 20). Home holds back many from being in God’s service. Wealth stands in the way of waiting on the Lord attending to His work. Elijah did not want Elisha to stumble on them, get distracted and forget the calling. Elisha in turn too knew it. So on reaching home, he killed his priceless bulls, cooked them purposely on fire kindled by its implements and served them in a feast to the people of the place (V. 21) in celebration of his selection to serve the Lord. It was a real heart touching sacrifice. He did not want any trace of his best possessions to remain at home uncared for, pulling him back even in the memories and distracting him from sincerely serving the master. Then he happily arose went after Elijah and ministered unto him. The place and the people therein were the happiest of all in Elisha’s selection to serve Elijah.
As believers, we should also be ready to sacrifice our precious time and money in serving God by preaching the word of God with our living testimony in and around our place. We being believers, the people abundantly should rejoice, feasting lavishly on the word that we ought to preach to them. The blanket having fallen on us we have to sow the word of God. Otherwise, we are not loyal to Him that has cast it. We should thus prayerfully flood our country with the Word and win souls for Jesus Christ who would make it bear luxuriant fruits or else be prepared to stand before the Throne, on judgment Day in shame, dishonor, humiliation and disgrace. – Amen.
